Michael Ferraro is an artist and leading innovator of Media Technology. He has pioneered developments in Virtual Reality and Real-Time Animation and exhibited artworks in important contemporary art centers around the world.
After receiving a BFA and MFA in experimental installation art he started his professional practice working on early flight simulators at Sperry Corp. He then moved to the R&D department of MAGI, the company that produced image sequences for the first feature film to use Computer Animation, TRON. Along with colleagues from MAGI Mr. Ferraro started Blue Sky Studios where he helped develop ground breaking computer animation software that has been used to produce feature films such as Ice Age and Epic.
After selling Blue Sky to Fox, Ferraro turned his attention to Virtual Reality, creating projects that have included a large operatic art installation developed while Artist-in-Residence at the Wexner Center for the Arts in Ohio.
Ferraro’s recent works include animation and sound installations incorporating texts adapted from works by Samuel Beckett, Roland Barthes and Benjamin Britten and continue his exploration of the performative dimension of media.
From 2004-2016 Ferraro head the Digital Media Program at Lehman College (CUNY) in the Bronx where he was activly building an advanced center for media innovation.
